Joanne is an experienced physiotherapist who grew up in Manakau and has now returned to Levin to bring her skills back to her local community.

Whilst living in the district over the last eight years Joanne has held roles that have involved travelling further afield training and supporting health colleagues, and most recently supporting physiotherapy services to NZ Defence.

Joanne believes in a holistic approach and that recovery is best supported with sharing of knowledge. The more you know about your body and injury the more you can help yourself heal and recover with support from your physiotherapist. Restoring mobility and functional movement requires a variety of techniques, some hands-on and some prescription based. Strategies to allow you to continue your rehabilitation in your daily life will be provided so that everyday movements become more comfortable or manageable.

Joanne utilises many different approaches in her physiotherapy including different forms of mobilisation, fascial release, exercise prescription, corrective biomechanics, functional movement, hydrotherapy, education and advice.

The one common physiotherapy approach that Joanne does not use in her clinical practice is needling or acupuncture.

Joanne became interested in occupational health and workplace intervention when technology began to change the way we worked back in the 1990s and there was an epidemic of overuse injuries. Whilst helping clients in the clinic she realised that they spent much more time on their work tasks during the week compared with their weekly physio sessions and that being able to influence how a person moves or performs these tasks in their own environment is what enables lasting results. Therefore Joanne moved her practice into the workplace itself and community based facilities supporting the workplace for many years. Joanne has been a past chair of the Occupational Health Special Interest Group of Physiotherapy New Zealand.
