Meet Jo,

Joanne is a New Zealand Registered Physiotherapist with over 30 years of experience. She holds a Diploma of Physiotherapy, a Postgraduate Diploma of Rehabilitation, and a Masters in Health Science with a focus on rehabilitation.

She grew up in Manakau and has returned to Levin to bring her skills back to the community she knows. Over the past eight years living in the district, she has trained and supported health colleagues across the region, most recently providing physiotherapy services to NZ Defence.

Joanne takes a holistic approach to treatment and believes that understanding your own body is a key part of recovery. The more you know about your injury, the better you can support your own healing alongside your physiotherapy sessions. She draws on a wide range of techniques including mobilisation, fascial release, exercise prescription, corrective biomechanics, functional movement, hydrotherapy, and education. Please note that Joanne does not use needling or acupuncture in her practice, so if that is something you are looking for she will be happy to point you in the right direction.

Joanne developed a strong interest in workplace health back in the 1990s when overuse injuries became widespread as technology changed how people worked. She noticed that clients spent far more time at work each week than they did in the clinic, and that lasting results came from being able to influence how people moved in their own environment. This led her to take her practice into workplaces and community settings, where she has worked for many years. She has also served as a past chair of the Occupational Health Special Interest Group of Physiotherapy New Zealand.
